WavePrint System
A Personalized Approach to Laser Vision Correction
Laser vision correction has revolutionized vision care. Common vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism can actually be treated.
The WavePrint System allows us to personalize your laser vision correction. Your vision is unique – as personal as your fingerprint. The WavePrint System gives us treatment options that are truly personalized to your visual needs.
The WavePrint System includes:
- The WavePrint Map
- 3D ActiveTrak Eyetracker
- Variable Spot Scanning* (VSS)
The WavePrint Map
Now, for the first time, the WavePrint Map provides information on more than just the corneal surface of your eye. It reveals the way your entire optical system processes light.
Using this information, we can:
- Accurately assess whether you're a good candidate for laser vision correction. The WavePrint Map is the gold standard in vision measurement. Anyone who is considering laser vision correction should obtain a WavePrint Map as the first step.
- Personalize your treatment plan to your unique vision. The WavePrint Map permits this kind of personalized planning.

The WavePrint Map: from the cosmos to your eye doctor's office
The WavePrint is derived from technology first developed to correct distortions of light waves from space. This allowed researchers to accurately view images of stars and planets. The WavePrint Map uses the same technology to measure light waves as they travel through your eye. This technology provides a precise and more detailed analysis of your vision.
3D ActiveTrak
Now, the 3D ActiveTrak follows the tiny motions of your eye instantaneously and automatically, in all three dimensions, repositioning the laser to ensure accuracy. Without a tracking device, laser vision correction requires patients to hold their eyes as still as possible during the procedure. However, even a "still" eye makes minute, involuntary movements, including moving slightly with each breath.

VSS - Variable Spot Scanning
Variable Spot Scanning* (VSS) is an exclusive VISX laser technology that allows for a larger treatment area. This offers us greater flexibility in developing a more personalized laser vision procedure, when pupil size may be a consideration.

An FDA-approved Procedure
The U.S. FDA has approved laser vision correction as an alternative to eyeglasses and contact lenses.
